Inclusion is the difference between being present and being able to participate.

Inclusion

Most organisations believe inclusion is about who is invited into the room.

We believe it goes much further.

Inclusion asks a different question.

Once people are here, what helps them succeed?

People experience workplaces differently.

Some barriers are obvious.

Many are invisible.

Different communication styles.

Different ways of learning.

Different levels of confidence.

Different life experiences.

Different ways of processing information, solving problems and contributing ideas.

True inclusion isn't about treating everyone the same.

It's about creating the conditions that allow every person to participate, contribute and perform at their best.

When people no longer have to spend energy overcoming unnecessary barriers, they can invest that energy into the work that matters.

That's when individuals flourish.

And organisations do too.

How THRIVE explores Inclusion

Inclusion isn't measured by policies alone.

It's experienced in everyday interactions, decisions and systems.

THRIVE combines three complementary sources of evidence to understand how inclusion is experienced across an organisation and where opportunities exist to remove barriers that may be limiting performance.

Diagnostic

The THRIVE Inclusion Diagnostic explores whether people believe they have equitable opportunities to contribute, participate and succeed.

Rather than focusing solely on representation or compliance, the diagnostic examines the everyday conditions that influence whether people feel able to bring their strengths to work.

It highlights patterns that may indicate where barriers exist, even when they are unintended.

Narrative Conversations

Barriers often become visible through people's experiences.

Guided conversations help us understand how organisational systems, leadership practices and everyday interactions shape inclusion.

We explore the moments when people felt empowered to contribute, as well as the moments when they felt overlooked, excluded or unable to participate fully.

These stories provide valuable context that numbers alone cannot reveal.

Observation

Many barriers are hidden in plain sight.

Who is invited into conversations?

Whose ideas receive attention?

Who consistently adapts to the environment?

Who is expected to fit existing systems instead of the systems adapting to support them?

Structured observation helps identify the everyday practices that either expand participation or unintentionally limit it.

Together, these perspectives provide a practical understanding of how inclusion is experienced across the organisation.

What Inclusion looks like

When Inclusion is thriving

  • Different perspectives are actively welcomed.
  • People contribute in ways that suit their strengths.
  • Barriers are identified early and addressed thoughtfully.
  • Teams adapt without lowering expectations.
  • Individuals feel comfortable being themselves at work.
  • Diverse thinking strengthens decision-making and innovation.

When Inclusion is under pressure

  • Participation is uneven.
  • Some voices are consistently overlooked.
  • Systems work well for some people but not for others.
  • Employees spend energy adapting instead of contributing.
  • Capability is underestimated because opportunity is limited.
  • Talent remains hidden behind unnecessary barriers.

Inclusion is not about giving some people an advantage.

It's about removing disadvantages that prevent people from demonstrating what they are capable of.

The question we keep asking

What barriers are we expecting people to overcome that we could redesign instead?

That question changes everything.

Because many workplace challenges are not created by people.

They are created by environments that were never designed with every person in mind.

Small adjustments can often unlock remarkable capability.
